Description

Multi-Modal optimization based on swarm and evolutionary algorithms

Dr. Mahdi Eftekhari

There are several engineering problems that can be modeled as an optimization task with multiple possible solutions. Locating all the global or local optima in a single run is the main challenge of such optimization problems that are called Multi-Modal Optimization Problems (MMOP). Classical methods usually utilize several restart points and multiple runs in the hope that a different solution may be discovered every run. Evolutionary algorithms (EAs) due to their population based approach have some advantages over classical optimization techniques. They maintain a population of possible solutions, which are processed every generation, and if the multiple solutions can be preserved over all these generations, then at termination of the algorithm we will have multiple optimal solutions, rather than only the best solution. Therefore, preserving the population diversity as well as employing a good memorization mechanism (for saving the optimal solutions) must be utilized in EA based multi-modal algorithms. In this special session, researchers are invited to submit their original works based on evolutionary and swarm intelligent algorithms for solving MMOP.

Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE)

Dr. Reza Akbari

Software engineering has many problems which can be modeled as search problems. Currently most of these problems are solved by human. It is required to move software engineering problems from human-based search to machine-based search. Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) is a new track in software engineering which is aimed to use optimization techniques (swarm intelligence, evolutionary algorithms, etc) to find optimal or near-optimal solutions for software engineering problems. The SBSE focuses on different areas of software engineering such as software testing, architecture, design, requirements. We invite the submission of high quality papers describing novel and original work in all areas of SBSE in this special session.

Solving constraint engineeringoptimizationproblems using heuristic optimization algorithms

Dr. Esmat Rashedi

Constraint optimization(so calledconstrained optimization) is the process ofoptimizing an objective function with respect to some constraints. Solutions that do not satisfy all of the constraints are infeasible. So, complex engineering problems with large number of constraints are hard to solve. In this special session, researchers are invited to submit their original works for solving constraint engineering optimization problems with heuristic optimization algorithms. Especially, solving some standard engineering problems including: the welded beam design problem, the pressure vessel design problem, the tension/compression spring design problem, and the speed reducer design problem are suggested.

Submissions of papers to special sessions should be done through the paper submission website of CSIEC 2018 where authors can choose a special session title as the main topic of their paper from a list of regular session topics and special session titles. All papers submitted to special sessions will be subject to the same peer-review review procedure as the regular papers. Special sessions having fewer than accepted papers will be cancelled and the accepted papers will be moved to regular sessions.

Call for Special Sessions

Special session proposals are invited to the 2018 Conference on Swarm Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation (CSIEC 2018) to be held in Bam on March 6-8, 2018.

Special Session Requirements

The target for each Special Session is 5 accepted papers. The following information should be included in the proposal:

  • Title of the proposed special session.
  • Names and affiliations of the organizers (including brief bio and contact info).
  • Session abstract (state the motivation and significance of the topic, and the rationale for the proposed session).
  • List of invited papers (The proposal can include additional information such as a list of potential contributors, a tentative title, author list and a 300-words abstract for each paper).

In addition to invited papers, other potential authors will be allowed to submit papers to Special Sessions. All papers will go through the same review process as the regular papers submitted to the main conference to ensure that the contributions are of high quality. If a special session has more than 5 papers being accepted, some of the papers will be moved to the regular paper sessions of the conference.

Special session proposals will be evaluated based on the timeliness of the topic, its uniqueness, and qualifications of the proposers. The proposers are expected to have a PhD degree and have a good publication track record in the proposed area. A tentative accept/reject decision on the proposal will be sent to the proposers within a few weeks after its receipt by the Special Sessions Chair. Accepted special sessions will be listed on the website. However, it is likely that an accepted proposal will be combined with similar proposals to avoid multiple special sessions covering a similar topic. A final decision will be made one weeks after the special session proposal deadline.

Once the proposal has been approved, the organizer(s) and the Special Session chairs will arrange the review process.

Proposals should be sent by e-mail to: Mahdi Eftekhari (m.eftekhari@uk.ac.ir)
